We’re on the East coast this afternoon for a battle in the nation’s capital. The Connecticut Sun will take on the Washington Mystics at CareFirst Arena this afternoon. These 2 teams met a little over 2 weeks ago and the Mystics won by 5 points.
Connecticut is 2-6 and in last place in the East. They come into this game off a win over the Dream on Friday night. The Sun are 1-3 on the road this year, so they have struggled away from home.
Marina Mabrey is coming off a monster game vs the Dream. She had 34 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists on 13 of 22 shooting. To say she went off would be an understatement. Tina Charles also put up 19 points but only 4 rebounds which is small for her.
Last game was at home in front of the home crowd, but they need to carry that momentum into this game. Connecticut ranks in the bottom of the league for points scored per game and pace. They also have worst offensive rating in the league and are 2nd worst in defensive rating as well. Lots to work on for this Sun team.
Washington looks to break 3-game losing streak at home

Mystics guard Brittney Sykes scans the floor as she brings the ball into the offensive zone.
The Mystics are 3-6 so far this season and are 5th in the East but have lost their last 3 straight games. Washington started off well, winning their 1st two games of the season, but then fell to 3-3. They haven’t won since and need this home win badly.
Washington drafted 2 rookies who are playing fantastic. Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron have both solidified themselves are starters and big parts of this offense. Iriafen is averaging 15 points per game and 10 rebounds per game, while recording 4 double doubles. Citron is quietly averaging 14 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and making her impact.
I think this is a good bounce back spot for the Mystics to get a win. They handled business last game vs the Sun and that was on the road. At home, the Mystics have a 2-2 record, which isn’t terrible. They are the better team in my opinion and should jump all over this game.
Let’s check out the odds and get into the Sun vs Mystics picks.

This should be a decent game in regard to competitiveness. Last game was a good one and not a blowout. I think we see more of the same, but I think the Mystics cover that spread at home and may even win by double digits.
Connecticut still has a long way to go and aren’t consistent. Mabrey has been stepping up, but you can’t expect a 30 piece out of her every game. Charles has also been inconsistent with her boards specifically which makes it hard to take.
On the other hand, the Mystics have players who have been consistent and putting up numbers. Kiki Iriafen, Brittney Sykes and Sonia Citron are all playing their roles in regard to consistently scoring and rebounding.
We’re going to take Kiki for 22 or more points and rebounds for -130. This girl has been like an ATM this season and it’s her rookie year. She has hit this in her last 2 games straight and 7 out of her last 8 games. Kiki put up 17 boards and 14 boards last game vs the Sun.
The other play I like is for fellow rookie Sonia Citron to record 2 or more made 3-pointers for -120. We’re getting decent value here and she’s hit in 2 of her last 3 games. She went 0 for 3 in the last game vs the Sun, but has been playing good basketball since and we should see a better day from her.
