In the second game of the season for both teams, each look for their first win. The Seattle Storm will take on the Dallas Wings at the College Park Center. Let’s see how these teams matchup early in the season and then get into the Storm vs Wings picks.
Dallas played much better than we thought in their first game. They played one of the best teams in league and although they lost by 15, they did put up 84 points. I thought that was a good sign for this new look team with a young new star.
Paige Bueckers made her debut and put up a 10-point, 7 rebound performance. She struggled from the field, shooting 3/10, but was perfect from the free throw line. Bueckers only had 2 assists, which I think she will build on as she gels with her teammates more.
Other newcomer DiJonai Carrington had a solid game with 15 points and 3 rebounds. NaLyssa Smith had a quiet first game as a Wing with only 6 points and 4 rebounds. Veteran and team leader Arike Ogunbowale had 16 points and went 8/8 from the free throw line. I think this team should be on your radar this season.

Seattle looks to get 1st win of the season after disappointing opener

Storm guard Skylar Diggins looks on as a teammate takes a free throw.
The Storm had a terrible first game of the year, losing to the Mercury by 22 points. Not a good look for a team who just lost a big piece in the offseason. Seattle was only able to put up 59 points as well and they know that won’t cut it to compete.
Skylar Diggins led the team with 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. She didn’t have much help otherwise as Nneka Ogwumike only had 12 points, but 7 rebounds. You can tell this team is missing Jewell Loyd.
They did have the second pick in this year’s draft and took Dominque Malonga. She only played a few minutes last game and had 2 points, but could become a big piece for this team. Malonga is a 6’6″ center from France that they call the female Wemby.
Not sure if this is a great spot for the Storm on the road for a second game. They have to shoot better from the field though, plain and simple. Shooting 33% is just asking to lose, especially when you rebounded and protected the ball well.

I think this is a good spot for the Wings after last game. Seattle had such a pathetic performance in their first game that I think we see a competitive game. We’re going to take the points here since we’re still getting value, but I’ll be sprinkling on the moneyline as well.
Dallas will have the home crowd behind them again, who should be hyped after competing last game. This is a perfect spot for them to get right and get that first win of the season. Paige seemed to adjust pretty well, so look for her to keep scoring. It’ll be interesting to see if she starts facilitating the ball more.
The first prop I like is for Paige to get 5 or more rebounds for +102. She had 7 last game, and I think we’ll continue to see a lot of the same play from her. Grabbing 7 was probably on the higher end for her, so I like the 5.
Another prop I like is DiJonai Carrington to have 12 or more points for -102. Carrington had 15 points in her first game with the team since coming from Connecticut. She is already in the starting 5 and going to have a major role in this offense.
