We’re back with another season preview and this time it’s the Chicago Sky. They finished 10th last season with a 13-27 record. Chicago was only 2 games out of a playoff spot though, so some improvement this season could be good for them.
Rookie Angel Reese made a splash last season on and off the court. Reese was very vocal in the media when she wanted to, and we all know how she feels about Caitlin Clark lol. We’re going to get into Reese more and what she brings to the table in her 2nd year.
The team made a trade this week with the Washington Mystics and received guard Ariel Atkins. She should help bring a lot to this team’s offense from her scoring to her experience. This is another thing that will be in this Sky season preview.
Ariel Atkins brings experience and offense to this team

Welcome graphic for Ariel Atkins arrival to Chicago.
This past Sunday, the Sky traded for guard Ariel Atkins from Washington. Atkins was the 7th pick in the 2018 draft and has been in the league for 7 years. She won a championship in 2019 with the Mystics and won an Olympic Gold medal in 2020.
She averaged 15 points 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game last year. She shot 44% from the field and 36% from 3-point range. I think this is a great pick up for Chicago. Atkins will fill the guard spot with Chennedy Carter gone.
I like this pick up for the Sky and with the return of Courtney Vandersloot, they’re back court definitely improved. They could really be deadly if Angel Reese can deliver down low. You can’t forget 2024 pick Kamilla Cardoso who played a nice role last year as well.
Can Reese reach star level in her sophomore season?

Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese waits back for the ball to be inbounded.
Despite the drama, Reese definitely had a solid season last year. She averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game and her rebounds were cashing like crazy. Problem for her though is that 75% of her rebounds come off her own misses.
She had shooting trouble all season last year, shooting 39% from the field. I think Reese kept her numbers up because of all the offensive boards and put backs. She could miss 1-2 times and then get the bucket.
But now it’s a new season. Can she improve her shooting to really become a threat? She did play in the Unrivaled tournament, which kept her fresh and playing. Reese didn’t look terrible, but she had her moments. If she can get her layups to fall first try, she can really get going
Reese has the potential to really be a threat as she’s already dominate down low. I think she’s been doing work this offseason on top of the tournament and we’re going to see improve shooting. From a betting standpoint, something to keep your eyes on because her rebounds per game will go down!
