Quick!! Before you shut your eyes, we’ve got to discuss some EARLY morning English Premier League as Aston Villa host Manchester City at Villa Park. This match kick off at 7:30am eastern, so I can’t even promise that I’ll be awake for this game, however I do have some strong feelings already.

Manchester City has been horrendous, especially away from home. Their last win on the road came on October 20th to Wolverhampton, and they’ve now lost two straight to solid competition. After falling 2-nil to Juventus in Italy in the UCL, Manchester City faced United in the Derby, and led 1-nil in the 87th minute. Then disaster struck, as United netted a penalty and another in the 90th minute to steal a win right out from under their rivals. And things won’t be any easier today.

Aston Villa has been playing very well this season, sitting tied for 6th on the EPL table with 25 points. They are looking to bounce back following a bad loss to Nottingham Forest, but had won three straight matches prior to that. At home, in a match they’ve had circled, I like the home team to come out strong.

When Will City Catch a Break?

Like I said, the struggles continue for Manchester City. Not only do they have a huge point penalty looming, but they are failing to grab points in the simplest of matches. Against Aston Villa who is hungry to take them down, I don’t see things changing.

Manchester City were once Europe’s Top Dawg, but those days are long gone, and everyone wants a shot at the King on his way down.

Aston Villa have only been shutout once in their last 7 matches at home. They find ways to create chances no matter who they face, and do a great job of point said chances in the back of the net. Manchester City is bringing a very beat up backline to this match, as they will miss Nathan Aké, Rúben Dias, John Stone, and Manuel Akanji. Not to mention they are still missing Rodri in the midfield.

On the road, this will be a tough challenge for the visitors. Add in the injuries and the motivation on their opponent’s side, and this one could get ugly in my eyes. The wrong team is favored here, so we will take advantage and try to start our Saturday with a winner!

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have something on the ML outright, but I have no problem paying this juice here, especially when the rest of the market is pricing this at -155.

Aston Villa may not be the “better” team on paper overall. But in this spot, they are much stronger, in much better form, and being at home, they are the team I want to trust in this spot. I had faith in Manchester City to end their skid in a rivalry match last Sunday. Instead they fell apart in the final three minutes to lose outright. It seems their problems did not get fixed at all.

And this match is not going to be easy. Playing Manchester City is like playing Patrick Mahomes. It doesn’t matter the time, or how the rest of the season is going. When you get a chance to take down the best of the best, you wake up pissed off, fired up, and ready to give it your best shot.

Sure, Aston Villa did beat Manchester City last year, but I see them bringing the same energy at home in order to take down the big guys once again.
