It features two divisional rivals as the Vegas Golden Knights head to the City of Angels to take on the Los Angeles Kings. Both teams have split the season series so far, and look to get a leg up on their opponent tonight.

Back in October, these teams played twice in just eight days. The Golden Knights hosted the first meeting, beating the Kings 6-1, despite being outshot in the match. However, next week the Kings got their revenge, taking down VGK by a score of 6-3 at crypto.com Arena. Los Angeles jumped out to a four goal lead, and even led 6-1 before the Knights netted a couple late.

Pacific Division Rivals Face Off

In both matchups, Los Angeles has outshot the Knights. It isn’t that weird, considering the Kings allow the least amount of shots per game in the NHL, however VGK is right there with them.

In 54 games this year, the Kings allow roughly 25.5 shots on goal per contest. For the Knights in 57 games, that number is 26.6. Neither team is very leaky on defense, which makes me question how we saw 7 and 9 total goals in the previous meetings. Overall these teams are Top 10 in goals against and Top 15 in save percentage as well. But somehow, the offenses come alive when these teams take the ice.

While there isn’t much difference between these squads overall, there is quite the divide when given a man-advantage. The Golden Knights boast the 4th best powerplay in the NHL, scoring over 27% of the time. The Kings are quite the opposite, ranking 29th and completing just 15% of their opportunities. In the first meeting, VGK was 2/2 with an advantage while the Kings went 0/4. The next matchup, VGK was 1/3 while the Kings took advantage of their one opportunity. I lean slightly with the road team here and will be betting on the Knights.

I strongly lean with the under in this matchup given how great these defenses are, but instead I’ll back the Knights as short road favorites. After a stale first period, the Knights were down 1-0 to the Canucks on Saturday, but rallied to find an equalizer and two winners in the 3rd period. The Kings also found themselves down to Utah, battling back twice in order to win 5-3 at home.

Now, the Kings are 18-3-2 this season at home, while Vegas is just 14-11-3 on the road. Trends were made to be broken, and tonight I see the Knights pulling off a huge win on the road. Right now I like the Golden Knights defense a little bit more, and after both previous meetings saw plenty of goals, I see both teams focusing on stopping the puck.
