Toronto Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers: NHL Best Bets (5/11)

The Toronto Maple Leafs are probably wishing they could have Game 3 back, as they now face the Florida Panthers again following their loss. The Leafs were up 2-0 after winning both games up north before this series headed to the Sunshine State, but now lead just 2-1 heading into Game 4.

These teams have been involved in some very close, high scoring battles so far this series. In Game 1, Toronto took down Florida 5-4 in dramatic fashion. Toronto was up 4-1 heading into the third before the Panthers cut that lead to one, only to come up short. Game 2 was a little better for Florida as they at least saw a couple of leads, but Toronto found a game winner just 23 seconds after the Panthers tied things up late in the contest.

Then we headed to Florida where the Leafs got out to a 2-0 lead. They bumped it up to 3-1 early in the second period, but that’s when the Ice Cats got hot. The Panthers netted three goals in the second in order to take a 4-3 lead heading into the final period. The Maple Leafs tied things up and forced OT, but Brad Marchand ended things 15 minutes into overtime, securing a win for Florida. Now they need to rally to do it again tonight.

In my mind, just like Game 3, this is a must win for Florida. If you head back to Toronto down 3-1 after losing Game 4 at home, you might not get the chance to defend your home ice again. The Panthers obviously know this and will come out screaming if they can.

Despite finding themselves down two goals plenty this series, Florida has never been quite out of the game. They’ve kept it competitive right up until the end, now all they have to do is put the finishing touches together and secure a Game 4 victory. I trust the Ice Cats to get this done, and I also think we see plenty of fireworks tonight.

These two teams are not afraid of playing aggressive and generating offense; that’s been clear from the beginning of the series.

With their backs against the wall, the Panthers stepped up and rallied in Game 3 to secure a much needed victory. They have the capabilities to do the same thing in Game 4, especially if Sergei Bobrovsky plays better than he has so far (which is likely).

Ultimately, Florida is very good at home. While Toronto is decent on the road as well, I see them possibly slipping up and letting the Panthers steal a second in Sunrise in order to tie up this series.
