The Dallas Stars are on an East Coast trip with the 2nd game in the Metro Division. Dallas will head to UBA Arean tonight to take on the New York Islanders. These 2 met right in the beginning of the season and Dallas won 3-0.
New York is currently 25-23-7 this season, 6th in the Metro Division and 5 points out of a Wild Card position. They’re 13-11-2 at home this season and were hot going into the break, with a 7-3-0 record in their last 10 games. The Islanders have struggled this season, so it’ll be interesting to see if they can keep winning after the break.
Their offense is in the bottom of the league. They rank 26th for goals scored and 14th for shots on goal per game (which isn’t terrible). Per usual, they have the worst power play in the league and 2nd to worst penalty kill to go with it.
Defense is usually an area where the Islanders exceled, but not this year. They rank in the middle of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. New York also doesn’t commit too many penalties, which helps a little for their poor penalty kill.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is confirmed to start. He is 20-16-4 this season with a 2.69 GAA and .907 save percentage. Sorokin should be well rested as he was not in the 4 Nations Face Off.
Dallas will look to continue momentum from last night

Stars captain Jaime Benn celebrates after scoring a goal.
The Stars are 38-18-2 this season and 2nd in the Central Division. They come into this game off a win over the Devils last night. This team plays well on the road with a 16-11-1 record and was also hot going into the break, going 7-2-1 over their last 10 games.
Their offense is pretty powerful, ranking 5th in the league for both goals scored and shots on goal per game. Their power play is only 21st in the league, so they play better 5-on-5 hockey in my opinion.
On defense, the Stars are really good. They rank 2nd best for goals allowed and 8th best for shots on goal allowed. Their penalty key is top notch, ranking 2nd, but they also commit a small number of penalties to help.
Goalie Jake Oettinger is confirmed in net tonight. He has a 26-12-2 record with a 2.35 GAA and a .911 save percentage. Oettinger is returning from the 4 Nations tournament, but only played one game, so he should be as normal.

Going with the Stars and their momentum from yesterday. I’m not sure what kind of Isles team we see tonight. They were playing great hockey, but did the break cool them off? New York only had Brock Nelson play in the 4 Nations and he was useless, so they’re well rested.
The Stars are the better team here, no other way to say it. They will be tested vs Sorokin though who is 2-0-1 in his 3 games vs the Stars. I do think tonight will go a little different due to the break.
I think this game goes under. Between 2 good goalies and 1 team who will be rusty, we should see a low scoring game. Sorokin hasn’t let up more than 2 goals vs the Stars and Oettinger has only allowed 5 goals in 3 games, including a shut-out vs the Islanders.
Bo Horvat has good history vs the Stars for shots on goal. He has recorded his 3+ shots on goal in his last 3 games and last 4 out of 5 games vs Dallas. We’re going to take that for -114. He has also scored in his last 4 out of 5 games vs the Stars, so we’ll be sprinkling that as well for +195.
