Nothing like some afternoon hockey and today we’re packed. The New York Islanders are taking on the Washington Capitals at the Capital One Arena. It is the 1st time these 2 division rivals will face each other thing year.

The Caps are riding a 2-game winning streak despite missing Ovi. He went out with a broken leg a week ago and will be on the IR. We hope to see him back soon and continue his quest for most goals ever in NHL history.

Offensively, this team is firing on all cylinders. They lead the leagues in goals scored per game with 4.09 and they have the best shooting percentage in the league with 14.2%. Washington doesn’t shoot the most, averaging 29 shots on goal per game, but they make them count.

In goal today, we should see Logan Thomoson. He is 9-1-1 this season with a 2.44 GAA and .917 save percentage. Not bad for a guy who is splitting his time with another goalie. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

It somewhat pains me to lean this, and it also doesn’t. We got to keep it real here and the Islanders are out matched. It will be extremely tough for them to get things going offensively and they have a tough offense to stop.

This New York defense is just declining. They are down one of their best defenders in Adam Pelech, but they need to play better. The Islanders allow 3 goals and 29 shots on goal per game on average.

Washington is so tough on defense that the Islanders will be passing all game. The Caps are 8th in goals allowed and 11th in shots on goal allowed per game. This team is also great on the penalty kill, but if they get the chance. The Islanders are averaging the least number of penalties per game.

Props are extremely tough to find in this game. The Islanders are wildly inconsistent, and the Capitals are missing their best player. I do like the Goal in the First Ten Minutes (GIFT) of the game for -136. I expect the Islanders to be the team to let one in.
