See Picks & Statistics For The GameTwo offensive powerhouses face off tonight. The Carolina Hurricanes will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena. These 2 teams met last month, and the Canes won 6-3.
Toronto is welcoming back some players from the 4 Nations tournament. Whether everyone plays or not is still to be determined. Auston Matthews did sit out one of USA’s games, but it was believed to just be rest and avoid injury. Mitch Marner and William Nylander should be back tonight as they did not sit at all.
The Leafs are 33-20-3 this season and 2nd in the Atlantic. They were 6-4-0 in their last 10 games leading up to the break and are 19-11-0 at home this season. Toronto is playing the same they have the past few years – great during the regular season and firing on all offensive cylinders.
They haven’t been terrible defensively. The Leafs rank 12th in goals allowed and 19th in shots on goal allowed per game. Goalie Anthony Stolarz is expected in net. He has a 10-5-2 record with a 2.08 GAA and a .929 save percentage.
Carolina struggling on the road will look to right the ship after break

Hurricanes Jordan Stall moves past the Leafs Auston Matthews while chasing the puck.
The Hurricanes are 33-19-4 this season and are 2nd in the Atlantic Division. They were 6-3-1 in their last 10 games going into the break and seem to struggle on the road with a 12-13-3 record. Leafs should prove to be a tough test tonight.
Carolina is also welcoming back some players that we don’t know their status for tonight. Mikko Rantanen and Jacob Slavin are 2 of their players that participated in the 4 Nations Face Off. Neither had any issues playing, so they are expected back as normal.
On offense, the Canes have been pretty good. Known for being a defense 1st team, they rank 6th in goals scored and 3rd in shots on goal per game. Their power play could use some help as they only convert 20% of the time, which ranks 21st in the league.
Like I mentioned, they are known for being defense heavy. Carolina ranks 6th for goals allowed and 3rd for shots on goal allowed. Getting shots on net have been tough against them the past few years. The Canes penalty kill is very good, killing off 84.8% of their penalties.
Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov is expected in net. He has a 20-10-3 record with a 2.50 GAA and a .904 save percentage. Should be a good one on our hands tonight. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

With the way the Canes play on the road and the way the Leafs play at home has me taking the Leafs. They play well in front of the home crowd who will be happy to welcome them back.
This Leafs offense is really good. The Canes defense will definitely slow them down, but I think they find a way to win. Toronto is going to need a big game out of guys like Matthews, Marner and Nylander. Carolina has a great penalty kill, but they do commit about 4 penalties a game so the opportunities are there.
Auston Matthews went scoreless during the 4 Nations and needs to kick it back in gear. I like for him to lead this team tonight in shots and I expect him to score. His shot line is 4+ for -104 and his goal is +135. We’re getting good value on his shots.
Considering the defense on Carolina, I lean with the under. Both teams will definitely have rust on them to work off as well. Should be a good one, but keep your eyes out for the lineups!
