See Picks & Statistics For The GameWe head back to Washington D.C. for Game 5 of the Carolina Hurricanes vs. the Washington Capitals. The Hurricanes went into the Capital One Arena and stole both games. Huge isn’t even the word for how big this is for them. Let’s recap Game 4 and get into the Hurricanes vs. Capitals picks.
Game 4 had a lot of similarities to Game 3. The Canes got the first two goals of this game, one coming in the first period and the other coming in the second period. Even though the Capitals got on the board, their lack of offense killed them again with only 21 shots on goal.
A few minutes into the third period, the Caps made it a 2-1 score off a goal by Jakob Chychrun. Carolina quickly after made it a two-goal game again, but a power play goal from Alex Ovechkin brought the Caps back within one. The Canes would score again in the third and then an empty netter to win 5-2.
Frederik Andersen moved to 6-2-0 in the playoffs. He allowed only the two goals on 21 shot attempts. The most shots Andersen has seen per game vs. the Caps is only 21, so if the defense can continue this then they stand a good chance of another win.

Washington looks like they have lost their spark from this season

Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin takes a shot on net while Hurricanes center Seth Jarvis.
The Capitals really need to find their offense. This was the team that scored the most goals per game in the regular season and can’t seem to get it together this round. They are playing a very strong defensive team, but this is not good.
Playing at home should give them a little boost. They were able to get their lone win at Capital One Arena, and they’ll need their fans behind them for this one. Carolina will be doing everything they can to end this series tonight.
Goalie Logan Thompson has been struggled hard the last 2 games allowing nine goals. You definitely stick with your starter here as he got you over 30 wins in the regular season. This Capitals team is really going to need to get crafty to get the puck in the back of the net. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

Unfortunately, and as much as I would like for them to move on – it’s a wrap for the Capitals. This Hurricanes team is dialed in and having home ice is going to make it so much nicer. Their defense has absolutely shut down this Washington offense and they just need to do it one more time.
The moneyline is rather juicy, so I’m taking them to win in regulation. I think this will be more like the last 3 games where there is a lead and we don’t see overtime. I expect the Canes to get on the board first and try to maintain that lead like in Game 4.
I’m going to go ahead and lean with the under as well. The first three games in the series stayed under and I think we see more of that unless Logan Thompson is leaky like Game 4. You’re getting decent value on the under 5.5 total goals.
I am not a fan of taking player props from either of these teams. Give me Logan Thompson to record over 26.5 saves for -105. He has hit this in three out of the four games this series and we can expect the Canes to be firing as they try to end this series.
