The first round has had it all. Big hits, overtime heroics, and tense unpredictable moments. Let’s keep finding value in the slate with three more bets at a discount today. After a 1-2 article on Tuesday we are due for a big bounce back. We are 57-51 record over the last 34 articles of my Betting News NHL best bet articles with a positive unit size due to plenty of plus money plays cashing. Now it’s time to bring it to the playoffs.
We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all playoffs long! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.
And if you haven’t already be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL Playoff Series best bet.
1. Connor McDavid 2+ Points -125 on BetOnline:

Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl celebrate after scoring a goal.
This is a must win game for the Edmonton Oilers. A team who made it to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals but couldn’t hoist the Cup. A first round exit would be devastating, but they have a chance to get back in the win column at home tonight. McDavid single handidly brought the Oilers back into game one with a 4 point performance and bringing the team back from a 0-4 deficit, but it wasn’t enough to seal the win. The Captain and best player in the world will need to step up tonight so his team doesn’t go down 0-3 in the first round.
McDavid loves playing at home, and so do the Oilers. In the 23/24 season McDavid had 2+ points in a whopping 71% of ALL home games. The entire team benefits from this, as the Oilers ranked 12th for goals for per game at home this season. Luckily the Los Angeles Kings have been much worse on the road. Where there allow the second least amount of goals against per game when playing at home, the Kings allow the 23rd GA/GP on the road.
The Oilers and Kings are very familiar with each other. This is the fourth year in a row the two teams have met in the first round. McDavid has 2+ point in 60% of the last 34 games against the Kings and 10 of the last 17 against them at home. We are getting a discounted price on McDavid’s points tonight due to him not recording one last game. Add it all up and McDavid 2+ points at -125 is an NHL best bet tonight.

2. Taylor Hall Point +120 and Jordan Martinook Point +200 on BetOnline:

Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall high fives his teammates after scoring a goal.
Giving a bonus bet in this one! With both Taylor Hall and Jordan Martinook’s point being plus money you could put a half unit on each bet and be up if only one hits. The Carolina Hurricanes are coming into this game with a 2-0 lead. But the Rock is a tough barn to play in, and even with New Jersey’s severe injuries this game cannot be taken lightly. Good thing the Hurricanes depth can get the game done.
The New Jersey Devils are down three of their best defensemen and their top center Jack Hughes. While their top line with Hishcier has done a great job shutting down the Hurricanes top line, it is the Hurricanes offensive depth that has cause headaches. Out of the Hurricanes 7 goals this season, only one was scored by a member of the top line and that was on an empty net. The 2nd and 3rd lines on the other hand have produced the four goals. And those are the players we will target.
Taylor Hall has two points in the series, both assists. The former Devil has a decent enough history against his former team, and plays on a line with top forward Svechnikov and Kotkaneimi. The later has a fantastic history against the Devils. Jordan Martinook is a grizzled vet playing on the 3rd line with young gunner Logan Stankoven. He has three points this series. Better yet in the 2022-2023 series vs New Jersey he had 10 points. Both of these point props look like NHL best bets at a discount.

3. Lane Hutson Assist -120 on BetOnline:

Hutson has been rolling on the top power play unit
The defenseman will win the Caldar trophy for rookie of the year this year. But right now the playoffs are all that matter. And for the first time in years, Montreal will host a playoff game. The Bell Center will be alive tonight and should help spark their team. Montreal despite being down 0-2 have looked good. At times overwhelming the Capitals with their speed. This is a gigantic game for the team, and Hutson’s playmaking will be key for them to get a W.
Hutson had two assists in game one of the plays, squashing any concern about his ability to play in the playoffs. He has had 9 shot attempts, 3 blocked shots and averaged 25.6 minutes over the course of the two games. He has proven he is ready to play big minutes and big moments in the big games. Now back at home he can feed of the energy of the home town crowd to keep producing.
Logan Thompson of the Capitals has been fantastic all season. He showed some cracks in game one but made some huge saves in game two. However, the team in front of him has forced him to make big saves due to their inability to keep up with Montreal’s speed at times. The smooth skating Hutson can exploit this, just like he has all season. He had 6 assists against the Capitals in the five games he has played against them in his career. Let’s lean on Hutson’s assist at -120 as one of our NHL best bets of the night.
