Today we are going to do something a little different. Instead of finding fantastic value on tasty props at a discount we are going to look for the most poorly priced NHL best bets to lose all possible value. APRIL FOOLS! (See what I did there?). After a big 3-0 day last Thursday it’s time to get right back to it and find value on NHL player props at a discount. You know the drill.
We are now a 49-44 record over the last 31 articles with a positive unit size due to plenty of plus money plays cashing. Let’s snip some coupons and get some more green NHL player props!
We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all season! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.
And if you haven’t already be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL best bets for 4/1/2025!
1. Mason McTavish o2.5 SOG +100 on BetOnline:
The Anaheim Ducks have been on of the leagues laughing stocks for several season now. And after a bumpy start their young core is starting to turn the corner. A large part of this success is coming from their young centers, Mason McTavish and Leo Carlsson. McTavish in particular has been a one man wrecking crew of the last 20 games. Today the Ducks will host one of the leakiest teams in the league, the San Jose Sharks.
McTavish is really finding his game. He has a point in 65% of the last 20 games and has 8 points in his last 10 games. This success is correlated with his uptick in shot volume. He has hit his 2.5 SOG (shots on goal) prop in six straight games. He was once a 1.5 SOG prop player but the bump has happened for two reasons; his recent form and his opponent.
Over the past five games McTavish is averaging 7.2 shot attempts a game and 4.4 SOG. This dominance has come from him using shots to set his team up for success via rebounds, puck dumps on goal and of course just trying to snipe. The Sharks are a fantastic target as they allow the 5th most shots against when playing on the road, making this prop an NHL best bet. And to really make this coupon one to cash, the Sharks allow the 3rd most shots against to centers.

2. Jakob Chychrun o2.5 SOG +120 on BetOnline:

Jakob Chychrun of the Washington Capitals SOG has a ton of value!
I can’t quit you Chychrun. No lightbulbs, no problem. Jakob Chychrun may be lighting his house by candlelight right now, but he is also lighting up goaltenders across the league. The man just signed a mega extension with the Capitals and is riding high. Over the last 10 games he has hit his 2.5 SOG (shots on goal) line eight times, averaging 8.3 shot attempts a game. And tonight he gets a great target.
The Boston Bruins are allowing the 11th most shots against to defensemen over the last 10 games. They are also allowing the 6th most power play opportunities to opponents this season. We are getting a nice discount on Chychrun as he has not been extremely consistent at this line. He has hit it 46% of the time this season. But with the extra pep in his step I’m willing to take the risk on his shots at plus money value.
Chychrun’s history against the Bruins is great too. He has hit in four of his last 6 games against them. In those games he has averaged 6 shot attempts. He is only three games removed since his mega contract so Chychrun should still be riding high. Let’s follow this volume and momentum for one of our NHL best bets. The bands will make her dance after all, as Ovechkin sings to Chychrun every pregame.

3. Dylan Cozens point -105 on BetOnline:

Dylan Cozens has fit like a glove and is producing BIG points for the Ottawa Senators
I don’t know why Cozens’ point prop is still so cheap, but if the books are going to give us a BOGO I’m not going to complain. Dylan Cozens will go against his former team the Sabres for the second time since being traded for Josh Norris at the trade deadline. Cozens has fit like a glove in the Ottawa Senators top 6. Since the trade he has a point in 9 of the 12 games. He has helped fill out the Senators top six which now provides major scoring threats up and down the line up.
This matchup really couldn’t get better. Besides Cozens being on a hot streak he gets the only other team who has has played for. And they just so happen to be allowing the most goals against in the league over the last 10 games. Now the price does seem a little too good to be true due to Cozens’ recent performance. However, he only has a point in 45% of all games this season and if you remove his recent performance he only has a point in 23 of the 61 games he played on the Sabres. We are getting a deep discount here due to his full season performance, making this an NHL best bet.
As mentioned above, the Sabres are allowing the most goals against in the league over the last ten games. They are averaging a whopping 4 GA/GP in that span. To make this even tastier, the Sabres are allowing the most goals to centers in the league in that same span. Cozens’ point looks way too tasty to pass.
