NHL Best Bets 12/3

It’s the last month of the year and it’s time to ramp up our units to buy some extra gifts for family and friends (or ourselves!). Unfortunately our last article went 1-2 for the first losing day in weeks. Time to bounce back in this beautiful 10 game NHL slate!

We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all season! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.

1. Nick Suzuki Assist +120 on BetOnline:

The Canadiens stayed in the game against the New York Rangers on Saturday but then lost to the Bruins 3-6 the following day. Now they will host the New York Islanders who have been struggling to keep beach balls out of their net. They will also have a spark to their offense with Patrik Laine coming back from an injury he sustained in preseason.

While Laine wont play on the top line with Suzuki and Caulfield, it will help make the Canadiens more difficult to defend. Suzuki has a point in 58% of home games this season. More importantly he has a point in 9 of the last 10 games against the Islanders. Of those 10 games he has an assist in 6 of those games with 7 total assists.

While his point looks like a fantastic parlay piece tonight, his assist is so tasty for the plus money value. Especially because his linemate Cole Caulfield is finding his goalscoring knack. Caulfield has a goal in four straight games. Add this all up and Suzuki assist looks like an NHL best bet tonight!

2. Sam Bennett o2.5 SOG –125 on BetOnline:

Some men are born for the road. Sam Bennett is one of those. Once considered a home dawg, he has now gone full Mad Max and brings fury to every road game he plays in (see what I did there?). Tonight Bennett gets a fantastic match up as the Florida Panthers roll into Pittsburgh to face the Penguins.

Bennett has only hit his SOG prop in 4 of the last 10 games. Not great. But also why we are getting him on a discount. Out of his last 10 only three games have been on the road, and Bennett has hit his shots on goal total in 2/3 of those games. But on the season Bennett has hit in 73% of all road games. His shot attempts aren’t the highest (4.5 shot attempts over the last 10 road games) but he is efficient.

The Penguins are also one of the best targets for SOGs. They are allowing the 2nd most shots against over the last 10 games, averaging 32.9 per game. They are also allowing the 4th most to centers in the league over the last 10. Give me Sam Mad Max Bennett, the road dog tonight, an NHL best bet.

3. John Carlson Assist -105 on BetOnline:

They are serving shark tonight in Washington D.C. The Capitals will look to feat on a Sharks team who are allowing the 4th most goals against in the league. Carlson’s offense has spiked after a couple down seasons, with  point in 63% of all games. He has an assist in 54% of games this season.

There are two factors that really make Carlson a tasty target tonight. The first is that the San Jose Sharks are BY FAR allowing the most shots to defensemen in the league. They are averaging 9.96 shot against per game to defensemen. That means Carlson will be able to get pucks to the net in hopes for a juicy rebound.

The other factor is that the Capitals are without top goalscorer Ovechkin. Now this may sound strange, but his absence has made the offense adjust. Now both him and Chychrun are taking more shots from the blueline one the power play. Both defensemen are more elevated in their power play roles, meaning Carlson’s assist is an NHL best bet tonight.
