Ho Ho Ho, Santa Betzky here and it’s time to deliver some presents. It is the last day before a three day break for all NHL teams so you can expect players to empty the tank tonight to have something extra to celebrate during the break. So many rival matches tonight like the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, and other fantastic props to dig up some value. We are now a 17-16 record over the last 11 articles. Let’s green this one out for some extra holiday treats!
We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all season! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.
And if you haven’t already be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL best bets for 12/23/2024!
1. Kris Letang Point +115 on BetOnline:
Some players just understand the assignment. Kris Letang is a Pittsburgh Penguins lifer and knows when they play their rival the Philadelphia Flyers you must show up. And what better way to roll into the holiday break than by beating the Flyers at home.
In his last 11 games against Philadelphia, Letang has hit his point prop 7 times. This against the Flyers goes back even further, with a 13 hits in the last 20 games against them. The Flyers have been a great target for points this season. They are currently allowing the 9th most goals against in the last 10 games,
Not only does Letang have great history against the Flyers, he’s been red hot. In the last 10 games Letang has a point in 7 games. He has 10 points in that span. The Penguins are making a slow climb back up the standings, so a home win against their bitter rival would be huge. This all adds up to Letang’s point being an NHL best bet tonight.

2. Pavel Dorofeyev o2.5 SOG –130 on BetOnline:
One of the perks of betting on the NHL is that is seems like the sports books take a little longer to adapt to newer players in the league. Take Dorofeyev for example. He was moved to the top power play unit and top line at times this season. He has hit his SOG (shots on goal) prop in 67% of ALL games this season. And yet his SOG prop is a betable price against one of the leakiest teams in the league.
Dorofeyev has hit his SOG prop in 8 of the last 10 games, averaging 5.2 shot attempts. And while he is currently playing on the 3rd line and 2nd power play unit, he is still averaging 16.1 minutes over the last 10 games.
Tonight he gets an Anaheim team who won last night in a shootout against the Utah Hockey Club. They are also a team Dorofeyev has hit his SOG prop in 5 of the last 8 times against. But the main reason to lean into this look is that the Ducks are once again allowing the most shots against in the league. Over the last 10 road games they are allowing 35.1 shots against per game. This makes Dorofeyev shots an NHL best bet tonight.

3. Logan Cooley Point -115 on BetOnline:
Another new player who has been undervalued by the sports books is Utah Hockey Club’s centerman Logan Cooley. Cooley is nearly a point per game player this season. He’s displayed his supreme playing making and solid two way play and now plays on the top power play unit. Cooley has a point in 64% of all games this season. And over the last 10 games he has 12 points.
We are getting a fantastic price on his point prop tonight as the Utah Hockey Club are coming off a back to back (homestand) and facing the tough Dallas Stars. However, the Stars have been weaker on the road. Over their last 10 road games the Stars have allowed the 17th most goals against. And while their GA/GP is league average, their penalty kill is not.
Over that last 10 road games the Stars have the 7th worst penalty kill. This may not bode well for them as the Utah Hockey Club power play has been red hot. Over the last ten games with ranks 5th, converting nearly 30% of the time. The cherry on top of this NHL best bet is the fact that Cooley was benched for most of the 3rd period and over time last night. He admitted his poor play was deserving of the benching today and you know how will come out motivated to make up for it. His point looks fantastic at -115.
