Ducks vs Senators NHL Predictions & Picks (12/11)
The Senators’ four-game homestand will come to an end on Wednesday when the Ducks come to town.
The latest Canadian Tire Centre run has seen mixed results thus far as the Senators fell to 2-1 SU in the first three games with Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the New York Islanders. Ottawa couldn’t find a way to generate any offense when it mattered the most late in the game, allowing New York to tally two unanswered third-period goals.
Having said that, the Senators will aim to end things on a high note by taking advantage of the Ducks’ recent woes.
With Monday’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens, the Ducks are now an abysmal 2-6 SU across their last eight outings. Unsurprising, offense has been Anaheim’s biggest issue as it has averaged just 2.13 goals per game during that stretch, which includes being held to one goal in three of the last five games.
The Ducks’ lackluster offense has led to more losses than wins lately.
One thing that the Ducks have going for them is that they’re 7-2 SU across their last nine meetings with the Ottawa Senators. That includes when Anaheim picked up 4-3 shootout win against Ottawa at Honda Center back on Dec. 1.
Still, the win wasn’t exactly concrete given that the Ducks blew three leads throughout the contest.
The visitors could also quickly find themselves behind on the scoreboard if they get into penalty trouble. Although both sides own two of the NHL’s worst penalty kills, it’s the Senators who own the much superior power play, cashing in on 25.8% of man-advantage opportunities (8th) compared to the Ducks’ 15.8% success rate (29th).
The Senators’ odds of winning will improve if goaltender Linus Ullmark can continue his recent play. After a slow start to the season, the Swedish netminder is back on track with a 3-0-1 record, 1.96 goals-against average, and .938 save percentage in his last four starts.
Meanwhile, the Ducks are hoping that Lukas Dostal can pull out another strong performance. Even though he’s only won two of his last five appearances, Dostal gave Anaheim a chance to win each outing as he recorded a posted a 2.54 GAA and .916 SV% along the way.
Ducks G Lukas Dostal has tallied a SV% of .903 or better in four of his last five starts.
On a cold night at the Canadian Tire Centre, I predict that the Senators will emerge victorious. The Sens are playing well lately and will do their best to get revenge against the Ducks, who’ve lost three straight games since they collided at the beginning of the month.
Additionally, it also helps that Ullmark hasn’t lost to Anaheim in regulation in nearly three years, going 2-0-2 with a 2.15 GAA and .930 SV% in the last four meetings.
With that in mind, I’m taking the Ducks to score u2.5 goals (-125) for tonight’s best bet — a number they’ve failed to surpass six times in their last eight outings. I see that trend continuing considering how terrific Ullmark has been between the pipes lately.
Ducks vs. Senators NHL Prediction: OTT wins

Best Ducks vs Senators NHL Player Prop (12/11)
As far as the best Ducks vs. Senators player prop bet goes, I like Brady Tkachuk o4.5 shots on goal (+106) tonight.
Tkachuk enters this game’s action leading the NHL with a whopping 117 shots on goal in 27 games — an average of 4.3 SOG per outing. It’s a small sample size, but that average has jumped up to 6.5 SOG across the Senators captain’s last four outings, which includes finishing with the Over three times.
One of those instances came against the Ducks as Tkachuk finished the road outing with a whopping 12 SOG (no, that isn’t a typo). Considering how Anaheim allows the second-most shots to left wings, I’d say it’s a safe bet to back the Over again.
Best Ducks vs. Senators Player Prop Bet: Brady Tkachuk o4.5 Shots on Goal (+106)
