The Dallas Stars are up north once again to take on the Winnipeg Jets in Game 2 of this Western Conference Semifinal series. The Stars were able to steal Game 1, 3-2, after all five goals were scored in the 2nd period. Will the Texas Hockey Team be able to win another one on the road? Or will the Jets bounce back tonight?

Game 1 was only really exciting during the second period. We saw a scoreless first, as both goal tenders stood on their heads and made double digit saves to keep things tied up. Then the fireworks were let loose. Nino Niederreiter scored just three minutes into the period to give the hosts the lead, but it didn’t last long. Just five minutes later, Mikko Rantanen tied things up at one, and five minutes after that, he netted another to give the Stars the lead.

Just two minutes later, on a power play, Rantanen completed his hat trick to give Dallas a two goal lead. Mark Scheifele found one late in the period to cut the lead to one goal, but it wasn’t enough. We saw another scoreless period in the third, with Dallas eventually winning 3-2. Surely, the Jets bounce back and win at least one game at home to start this series, right?

Overall, this feels like another under game to me. Both goal tenders are at the top of their game, they’ve already had slip ups in Round 1, and now they should be very focused for the rest of the postseason. The Jets managed 31 shots on goal last game, but 24 from the Stars was all it took to win. Tonight, I see the Jets being even more defensive focused, as I don’t see them losing another one at home in this series.

Stars vs Jets Prediction: Jets Win, Under 5.5

Had the Stars completely dominated Game 1, I might feel a little differently. However, the Jets outshot the Stars, they had less penalty minutes, but couldn’t take advantage of a single power play, even with four opportunities. I don’t see that staying the same in Game 2, as the Jets offense should come alive.

And even if they don’t, I think their defense is good enough to carry them. The last thing the Jets want to do is head down to Dallas down 2-0. They can prevent that from happening with a solid win tonight, which would give them some much needed momentum before going on the road. If the Jets contain the Stars like they were able to do for most of the first matchup, I see them having some success all over the ice, resulting in a Game 2 victory.
