See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Colorado Avalanche are back in Texas tonight to face the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of this first round series. Both teams were able to steal the first game on the road, while the hosts rallied to even things up the next time around.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes in Game 1, the Avalanche jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the end of the 2nd period. Dallas cut the lead to one early in the 3rd but another Avs goal, an empty netter, and then another nail in the coffin sealed a 5-1 Colorado road win. Game 2 had much more excitement with a 1-1 first period with the Avs leading 3-2 after two. Dallas tied it up in the 3rd and eventually won it in OT after nearly 18 extra minutes of skating around.
Tied up at two games a piece the teams headed to Colorado. We saw a second straight overtime game, this one much lower scoring than the first two. We saw 28 shots on goal per team, but only one for each squad found the back of the net before overtime. Colorado had a 1-0 lead after eight minutes and held it until there was less than 10 left on the clock, when Jamie Benn tied things up on a power play. Tyler Seguin won the game just five minutes into OT. But that set up a big revenge spot for Colorado in Game 4.
The Avalanche came out screaming. They scored both a power play and a shorthanded goal in the first period and never looked back. They added one more in the 2nd from Gabriel Landeskog and another in the 3rd on their way to a 4-0 shutout win. Colorado outshot Dallas 48-23 in Game 4, asserting their dominance at home. Will that carry over to Game 5 tonight on the road?

I am leaning with the Avalanche in this game, but don’t quite have the stones to take them in regulation. The current juice is certainly playable as well at (-133), but I think I’ll get a little greedy tonight. We have a total sitting at 6, and even 6.5 for plus money at some places, indicating to me that we might see some goals tonight. I’ll lean that way as well, as I’ve split up my unit on a couple of plus money parlays this evening.

Avalanche vs Stars Prediction: Avalanche Win, Over 6
Best Bets: Avalanche ML/Over 3.5 (+100) BetOnline
So we are on the Avs and Over 3.5 at even money, but I also took the Avs and Over 4.5 at (+115). BetOnline’s new Same Game Parlay feature is giving us the best odds on the market, as other books made you pay 25-30 cents more juice on these exact tickets.
All we need is a nice 3-2 Avalanche victory and we are in business, not asking for too much.
Now, like I mentioned, Colorado put up nearly 50 shots on goal last contest. They gave Jake Oettinger all he could handle, as the man still saved 31 of 34 shots faced. The Avalanche are best when they play fast and aggressive, daring other offenses to keep up, and I think they’ve finally figured that out. Returning captain Landeskog finally found the back of the net, giving this team even more motivation and talent on this cup run.
The unsung hero in this series has certainly been the man between the posts for the Avalanche. Mackenzie Blackwood has saved 107/114 shots faced this series, including over 96% in his past two outings. Even when he was with the Sharks earlier in the regular season, Blackwood saved 62/67 shots faced (92.5%) in two games against the Stars. The man is playing out of his mind, has played historically well against Dallas, and tonight I’m sure he plays a big role in a win.
Although I just talked up the Avs goal tender, you know the Stars will be as aggressive as possible. It’s going to take 25-30 shots on target to win these games against Colorado, so I expect Dallas to play with a bit more urgency on offense in this contest. Like I said, we split our unit on each of these plus money parlays, so as long as the Avs win and we get four goals we break even. Give me the Avalanche and at least five goals for a solid night on the ice.
