Bruins vs Oilers NHL Predictions & Picks (12/19)
Tonight’s meeting signifies the finale of the Bruins’ five-game western road trip.
After opening the venture with back-to-back losses, the Bruins have won two consecutive outings ahead of this evening’s action, most recently notching a 4-3 overtime win against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. Boston forced the extra frame despite entering the third period down two goals, eventually leading to David Pastrnak scoring his 12th goal of the season and game-winning marker in OT.
The victory also improved the Bruins’ record to 9-4 SU in their last 13 outings, highlighting how they’ve become one of the NHL’s hottest teams.
Having said that, let’s not act like the Oilers are slouches.
Even though they most recently fell 6-5 to the Florida Panthers on Monday, Connor McDavid & Co. are still 12-5 SU across their last 17 games. The Oilers are also 4-1 SU in their five previous home games, having outscored those opponents by an average of 1.6 goals per contest.
The Oilers have been doing a lot more winning than losing lately.
A big part of the Oilers’ recent success has been their ability to score a ton of goals. They’re averaging a whopping 4.4 goals per game across their last 10 outings, and have scored at least five goals in each of their last three matchups. There’s a good opportunity to continue that production tonight given that the Bruins have allowed an average of 4.3 goals through the first four games to begin their road trip.
The Oilers also have the distinct power play advantage tonight, having cashed in on 22.8% of their opportunities thus far (11th). The Bruins, meanwhile, are operating with a 12.9 PP% (31st) as they continue to struggle on the man advantage.
Can Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman handle the Oilers’ blistering offense? Only time will tell. Although the 26-year-old puck-stopper is an impressive 5-1-0 in his last six starts, his .870 save percentage during that time suggests that he’s been inconsistent at stopping the puck lately.
Although Oilers G Stuart Skinner allowed six goals on 28 shots in Monday’s loss to the Panthers, there’s a good chance that he’ll bounce back tonight. The former 2017 third-round pick has allowed two or fewer goals in five of his last seven starts, backstopping his way to a .920 SV% in those contests.
Oilers G Stuart Skinner is 5-2-0 with a .920 SV% and 2.31 goals-against average in his last seven starts.
Not only do I predict an Oilers victory tonight, but I’m also taking them to cover the puck line. After all, the Oilers have looked like legitimate Stanley Cup contenders lately and have destroyed the recent competition at home (aside from the Panthers). Even though the Bruins are coming off back-to-back victories, they aren’t getting consistent goaltending and their power-play issues could put them in a tough spot if they fall behind early on.
After outscoring four of their last six opponents by two-plus goals, I see another multi-goal win in the Oilers’ future.

Best Bruins vs Oilers NHL Player Prop Bet (12/19)
For tonight’s best Bruins vs. Oilers NHL player prop bet, you can’t go wrong with taking Evan Bouchard to record 1+ points (+100 on SportsBetting).
The 25-year-old defenseman has done a good job of setting up his teammates this season, registering 17 assists in 31 games. Bouchard recorded 11 of those assists in his last 12 outings, finishing with at least one helper seven times during that stretch — including tallying one assist against the Panthers three nights ago. It wouldn’t be surprised if that trend continues with tonight’s game potentially looking like a barn-burner with all of the offensive talent involved.
Bouchard also has more assists against Eastern Conference teams this season (11 in 14 games) than he does against Western foes (6 in 17 games). After tallying two helpers in his last game against the Bruins, I see this being another successful bet tonight.
Best Bruins vs. Oilers Player Prop Bet: Evan Bouchard 1+ Assists (+100)
