Bruins vs Flames NHL Predictions & Picks (12/17)
Tonight’s inter-conference matchup is a rematch from last month’s clash at TD Garden. The Bruins got the last laugh that night as they picked up a 4-3 overtime victory over the Flames, made possible by Brad Marchand scored the game-winning goal with 20 seconds remaining in the extra frame.
With the win, Boston improved to a solid 4-2 SU in its last six matchups with Calgary, leaving time to tell if that trend continues tonight.
When it comes to the Bruins, they have a decent amount of momentum on their side with a 5-2 SU record in their last seven outings. Their latest success came in the form of Saturday’s 5-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks, which was led by David Pastrnak (1 G, 3 A) and Pavel Zacha’s (1 G, 2 A) multi-point performances. Speaking of which, Pastrnak leads all Bruins in assists (7) and points (10) in the last seven games.
The Flames, on the other hand, have been in a bit of a funk lately. Ryan Huska’s club is only 3-7 SU in its last 10 games. Even though it most recently registered a 3-0 win against the Florida Panthers over the weekend, Calgary hasn’t won consecutive contests since the end of November.
The Flames have struggled to generate consecutive outings in the last three weeks.
Unsurprisingly, goaltending and defensive play have been the Flames’ biggest issues amid their slump. They’re allowing an average of 3.80 goals in their last 10 games while owning a minus-1.2 average goal differential.
The penalty kill has also been a big issue as the Flames have only killed 65.7% of penalties during that stretch. Even though the Bruins have one of the NHL’s worst power-play units this season, it’s worth pointing out that they’re a modest 19.0% on the man advantage in their last six games — including going 2-of-7 (28.6%) through the first three games of their road trip.
If the Flames want to improve on the PK, goaltender Dustin Wolf must be better between the pipes. The 23-year-old puck-stopper has played to mixed results lately. Although he’s 1-3-0 with a 3.57 goals-against average and .886 save percentage in his last four games, he stopped all 32 shots he faced in Saturday’s victory against the Panthers.
Meanwhile, Bruins G Jeremy Swayman appears to have finally rediscovered his form. Not only does Swayman have a 2.63 GAA in his last eight starts, but he also finished five of those contests with a SV% of .909 or better.
Bruins G Jeremy Swayman is back to looking like he’s in his top form.
Even though the crowd is on the Flames’ side, I’m taking the Bruins to win. The Flames have done a lot more losing than winning lately, whereas the Bruins are looking like a playoff threat again. If Calgary continues to struggle to keep the puck out of its net — especially on the penalty kill —, Boston could put this one away early.
Additionally, take the Over on the 5.5-goal total. The Over is 7-2 in the last nine collisions between these teams in Calgary, averaging 6.4 goals per game. If that doesn’t convince you, the Over is also 6-1 in the Bruins’ last seven road games as well as 4-1 in the Flames’ five previous outings.

Best Bruins vs Flames NHL Player Prop (12/17)
For tonight’s best Bruins vs. Flames NHL player prop bet, we’re taking Brad Marchand to score an anytime goal (+240 on SportsBetting).
Marchand has been playing terrifically this year, amassing 13 goals in his first 32 games — putting him on pace for 33 goals, which would be his most since 2018-19. The four-time NHL All-Star has only grown hotter as the current season has progressed as he now has scored in four of his last five games, racking up five goals during that stretch.
Marchand has experienced success against the Flames throughout his career, recording nine goals and 15 points in his last 14 meetings. He’s also scored on seven of his last nine trips to Calgary, highlighting just how comfortable he has become at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
With the Flames also allowing the fourth-most shots to left wings, Marchand should see plenty of opportunities to hit paydirt tonight.
Best Bruins vs. Flames Player Prop Bet: Brad Marchand Anytime Goal (+240)
