Avalanche vs Stars NHL on TNT Predictions & Picks (11/29)
It’s the first matchup of the 2024-25 season between these Central Division rivals. The Avalanche had the edge during the 2023-24 campaign, going 3-1 SU against the Stars while outscoring the latter 20-15 on aggregate along the way. Having said that, it was Dallas that picked up a 7-4 victory when these clubs last met on April 7.
Tonight’s showdown will likely have an impact on the division standings. The Stars and Avalanche are tied for third place in the Central, each sitting at 13 wins and 26 points apiece. Having said that, Dallas holds the tie-breaker against Colorado due to the former having played two fewer games so far.
It’ll be interesting to see if a return to American Airlines Center helps the Stars. After all, they just lost back-to-back outings against the Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks to end their three-game road trip, allowing six goals in each loss.
Conversely, the Avalanche are trending in the opposite direction. After a sub-.500 start to the year, the Avs are back on track with a 7-2 SU record in their last nine outings, most recently picking up Wednesday’s 2-1 shootout win over the Vegas Golden Knights, made possible by Alexandar Georgiev’s 18-save performance between the pipes.
Does Avalanche G Alexandar Georgiev have another strong performance in store for tonight?
If the Stars want to create separation in the division, they can’t afford a third straight lackluster defensive performance. The Avalanche have one of the most dangerous attacks in the NHL as they average 3.30 goals per game (11th) with a 28.2% success rate on the power play (5th). Although Dallas owns the league’s eighth-best offense, it can afford to get into a high-scoring affair with Colorado.
Nevertheless, the Stars’ chances of victory will improve if Jake Oettinger has another stellar showing between the pipes. The veteran netminder has won five of his last six starts, backstopping his way to a .916 save percentage along the way.
Meanwhile, Georgiev hasn’t tasted defeat since Nov. 7, going 6-0-0 with a .901 SV% in his last seven appearances. While the Avalanche goaltender led his team to victory more often than not during that stretch, it’s worth mentioning that four of those appearances resulted in a sub-.900 SV%.
Additionally, Georgiev is 6-3-0 with a .907 SV% and 2.93 goals-against average in 10 career meetings with the Stars.
Can Stars G Jake Oettinger outduel Avalanche G Alexandar Georgiev tonight?
Although oddsmakers are favoring the Stars, I’m taking the Avalanche to pull off an upset. With all due respect to the hosts, the Stars have trended downward lately, and allowing 12 goals in the last two games isn’t a good look. The Avs, meanwhile, are stacking up wins and own enough offensive talent to take advantage of the opposition’s recent defensive shortcomings.
With that in mind, I’m going to take the Over on the 6.5-goal total as tonight’s best bet. After all, the last six matchups between these clubs saw an average of 8.7 total goals scored, finishing with at least seven in five of those games. Furthermore, two of the Avalanche’s last three outings saw at least 10 goals scored while the Stars’ four previous outings averaged a combined 7.8 goals per game.
As two of the NHL’s top offenses are set to meet tonight, it’s clear that bettors should expect plenty of goals in Dallas.

Best Avalanche vs Stars NHL Player Prop (11/29)
After a strong performance against the Golden Knights, I’m taking Nathan MacKinnon o3.5 shots on goal (-127) for tonight’s best Avalanche vs. Stars player prop bet.
After finishing with the Under on this prop in six straight games, MacKinnon ended that streak with a 10-shot performance against Vegas on Wednesday. The Avalanche superstar has now hit the Over on this prop six times in his last 12 outings, averaging 3.8 SOG along the way.
When it comes to facing the Stars, the Over is 12-3 in MacKinnon’s last 15 meetings (5.5 SOG per game) with the Central Division rival. Considering how Dallas is allowing the 12-most shots on goal to centers this season, I’d be surprised if No. 29 doesn’t hit the Over again.
Best Avalanche vs. Stars Player Prop Bet: Nathan MacKinnon o3.5 Shots on Goal (-127)
