With Super Bowl 59 looming over the horizon, the two teams that will face off have been finalized: the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Given that the Super Bowl is the pinnacle event of the NFL, the two teams that will compete for all the marbles will show up and show out.
According to the NFL, the Chiefs and Eagles’ uniforms for Super Bowl 59 have been set. The defending champions Chiefs will be wearing their white and red uniforms, while the Eagles will go with their traditional midnight green-colored jerseys.
The main addition for both of the team’s uniforms is the new patch near the collar of the jerseys commemorating their Super Bowl appearance.
Who Will Be the Home Team for Super Bowl 59?
For Super Bowl 59, the Philadelphia Eagles are designated as the home team against the Chiefs. This is due to the Eagles winning the NFC championship; the AFC and NFC alternate as the home team each year, with the NFC the designated home team in odd years.
As the designated home team, the Philadelphia Eagles got to choose which uniform they would wear against their opponent. They chose the midnight green uniform, while the Chiefs will don their white and red ensemble for The Big Game.
History Behind Team Colors
Both team’s decision to go with their tried-and-true colors have historical context. The two teams played in the same colors during their previous matchup two years ago in Super Bowl 57. During the showdown, Kansas City defeated Philadelphia, 38–35, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, clinching their second Super Bowl title at the time.
For the Eagles, they have worn their green jerseys for their previous 3 Super Bowl appearances. Wearing the Kelly green jerseys, the Eagles fell 27-10 to the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XV in 1981. Then the Eagles wore midnight green in their next two appearances; Philadelphia lost 24-21 to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005, but were victorious against the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII in 2018, with a strong 41-33 finish.
To date, the Philadelphia Eagles have a 1-3 record in the Super Bowl whenever they wore green-tinted jerseys.
Conversely, teams that wear white jerseys in the Super Bowl have won 16 of the last 20 Super Bowls, dating back to 2005. However, teams that donned non-white jerseys won three straight Super Bowls from 2002-2004. That said, teams that participated in the Super Bowl and wore white jerseys have won 37 of 58 Super Bowls so far.
Which Team Should You Place Your Bets On?
The Chiefs and Eagles will have another go-around with one another in Super Bowl 59, but the question is, which team should you bet on? Most Super Bowl betting sites are leaning towards the Chiefs, since they are the defending champions, and have been 3 consecutive Super Bowls.
If the Chiefs manage to win against the Eagles, they will also become the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowl titles.
However, the Eagles have shown their prowess during the regular season, which culminated with their decisive win over the Washington Commanders. This win netted them the NFC championship, and the home court advantage.
Some football betting sites have given the slight edge to the Eagles, given their decisive NFC championship win gives them momentum leading to Super Bowl 59. Whichever team you’re cheering for, you can head over to the best online sportsbook operators and check their respective odds per team to help you decide which one you should be wagering on.
