Aaron Rodgers will play his 21st NFL season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rodgers informed the team on Thursday, June 5, that he would sign before next week’s minicamp. The former MVP will be 41-years-old during next season and is slated to be their Week 1 starter.
The Steelers are a -3 favorite in Week 1 against the New York Jets, with the total sitting at 39.5.
Mike Tomlin’s Quarterback depth chart now looks like this: Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson. It is safe to assume the veteran will get the start come Week 1. The Steelers haven’t had any stability since the legendary Ben Roethlisberger retired four seasons ago.
Since Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season, the #Steelers have gone 29-22 with two playoff appearances while starting five QBs: Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
Now, Mike Tomlin is betting on 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers. https://t.co/Ppfx4qQ4YK

Will Aaron Rodgers lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Super Bowl?
The Steelers newest QB will be making his regular-season debut on September 7 against the New York Jets. Rodgers will have a chance at some revenge against his former team. He spent two years in the Jets organization, he played 18 total games, dealt with a coaching change, and of course — tore his achilles.
They were 12-22 overall with Rodgers under contract. He threw 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while wearing green. Rodgers also held a QB Rating of 90.5 last season, which was his worst mark in any healthy or full regular season he’s competed in. He did, however, finish top-10 in total passing yards. So, there is still some gas left in that tank.
Rodgers told teams he would sign for $20 million, so it is fair to assume that is what the Steelers will be paying him. Pittsburgh recently acquired DK Metcalf who will likely be Rodgers’ favorite new target.
Additionally, Pat Freiermuth broke out last year and should continue to grow. Rodgers will have weapons and the Steelers defense is always good despite the fact that its stars are aging. Pittsburgh could be poised to make its first serious deep playoff run since 2016 when Big Ben was still under center.
Rodgers will have to contend with AFC North powerhouses like the Ravens and Bengals. Fortunately, the Steelers were 10-7 last year, and it is not out of the realm of possibility they improve on that. However, only time will tell if this will be just another stop for the fading superstar, or if he can have Tom Brady-level success post-40-years-old.
