See Picks & Statistics For The GameWe have made it to San Antonio. Only four teams remain in this year’s NCAA Tournament, with the Final Four happening this weekend in Texas. For just the second time ever, we have all four #1 seeds meeting for the last few games of this competition. On the other side of the bracket, the ACC Champion Duke Blue Devils face off against the Big 12 Champs, the Houston Cougars. But here we will be discussing the SEC matchup between the regular season champion Auburn Tigers, and the SEC Tournament champions, the Florida Gators.
Let’s start by stating that these two teams already played once. The Tigers hosted the Gators in Auburn as 11 point favorites in early February. Florida took that personally, beating the Tigers on their home court by 9, winning 90-81. The total soared over 156 and the Gators essentially covered by 20. It was utter domination from Florida.
Can Auburn get their revenge when it matters? Or will the Gators chomp their way into the National Championship?

Two SEC Rivals Battle in the Final Four

Alex Condon and Florida battle the SEC Rival Auburn in San Antonio
If you would’ve told me back in December, that I could get the Auburn Tigers to win the National Championship at +575, and the only catch was that they were already in the Final Four, I would’ve called anyone an idiot who didn’t take that bet. However, things change, and that’s the exact situation we find ourselves in.
Auburn had dominated the nation all season long, only slipping up a couple times. But during the back half of their SEC season, they certainly were beatable. And they haven’t been playing that well in this tournament, which is why I think their future price is so high. Sure, Auburn has revenge on their mind, and Florida barely squeaked by Texas Tech in the Elite Eight, but this Gators’ team has proven to be very deep, and very good in the clutch on both sides of the ball.
The Gators knocked down threes on four straight possessions to close out the Red Raiders, two from Thomas Haugh and two from none other than Walter Clayton Jr. Florida has multiple scoring options, all of whom are capable of taking over a game, as we saw from Haugh in the Elite Eight. Todd Golden’s squad will speed things up, daring the Tigers to keep up with them, and I just don’t think they have it in them this time around.

The Gators already beat Auburn once on their home floor as double digit underdogs. Now they are short favorites on a neutral court when the stakes are the highest. Do not let that slip up against Texas Tech fool you, this Gators team is still the truth.
They have multiple bodies that can compete with an defend Johni Broome in the post, and will make his life hell on the defensive end. The trio of guards from the Gators is incredibly athletic, and they will certainly give Tahaad Pettiford a matchup he hasn’t seen in a while. According to Bart Torvik, the Gators are the best offensive team in the nation over their last 10 games, ranking 13th in eFG%, 1st in offensive rebounding, and 24th at getting the to free throw line.
Defensively, they are Top 25 overall and Top 40 in eFG% as well. The Gators had an “average” shooting performance against Auburn last time. Auburn had their worst defensive outing of the season against the Gators, and they have not been playing up to the level they had all season long. The Tigers drop to 58th overall in eFG% over their past 10 games, almost 4% higher than their season average that ranks in the Top 10.
Give me the Gators offense to force enough extra possessions in this game to cover the number and advance to the National Championship.
