#8 Michigan State vs Iowa Best Bet
Throw on some old gym clothes, grab a towel, and get comfortable—this is going to be the sweat of the century.
The Iowa Hawkeyes host one of the hottest teams in the country, the Michigan State Spartans, who have won six of their last seven games and are riding a five-game winning streak. This stretch has been incredible, as the Spartans have battled through some of the Big Ten’s best—winning at Illinois, Purdue, at Michigan, at Maryland, and Wisconsin. They have yet to falter against top competition. However, this feels like the perfect spot to fade them. With a rematch against Michigan looming on Sunday, the Spartans will want nothing to do with this Iowa team.
Emotion City, USA
The Hawkeyes have won just three of their last ten games, but this could be Fran McCaffery’s final home game as Iowa’s head coach, making for an emotional senior night. That is why we are backing Iowa in this spot.
At home, Iowa is a completely different animal. The offense thrives, averaging over 86 points per game. The Hawkeyes boast a top-50 offense that takes care of the ball, ranks in the top 20 in two-point and three-point shooting percentage, and sits inside the top 100 in three-point rate. Defense is always the concern, but in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, they do not send teams to the line, they lock down the perimeter, and they force turnovers more efficiently.
Michigan State has one of the best defenses in the country, and their offense is highly efficient. However, all streaks end. With a more important game on the horizon, the Spartans may be sleepwalking in Iowa City. On the road in conference play, they rank third-worst in effective field goal percentage and fourth-worst in two-point percentage. They have also struggled from beyond the arc and with ball security—weaknesses the Hawkeyes should exploit.
If Iowa can dictate the pace and crank up the offense, this should be an exciting senior night and an even bigger night for their head coach. Give me the Hawkeyes to cover the spread at home tonight.
Best Bet: Iowa (+7) (-108) on BetOnline
