Kansas and Iowa State meet in Allen Fieldhouse for a high-stakes rematch, with both teams looking to rebound from embarrassing weekend losses. The Jayhawks are seeking revenge after blowing a massive lead to Baylor and falling to the Cyclones by 17 points in their first meeting. With both offenses primed for a bounce-back performance, the over looks like the best way to attack this matchup.

A good old-fashioned revenge game in Allen Fieldhouse. The Kansas Jayhawks host the Iowa State Cyclones after surrendering their biggest lead in program history to Baylor on Saturday. Clearly, they were looking ahead to tonight’s game. Meanwhile, the Cyclones seemed to be looking ahead as well, nearly losing to Kansas State by 20 points. In their first meeting, Iowa State took down Kansas 74-57 on January 15. With both teams coming off embarrassing losses, I have no interest in picking a side. I love the over.
On January 15, the total opened at 143.5 and went under by 12 points. Yesterday, the total opened at 145, two points higher than last time. I expect both offenses to show up tonight after a brutal Saturday.
Kansas’ offense has not been up to par lately, but this is a team that thrives at home. They dominate inside, ranking in the top 25 nationally. They have not been lights out from beyond the arc, but Iowa State struggles to defend the three on the road, ranking 244th. Kansas also protects the basketball well, ranking 40th in turnover offense. However, defensively, they do not force turnovers, sitting at 332nd in turnover defense.
Iowa State, on the other hand, has one of the most efficient offenses in the country. In true road games this season, the Cyclones rank 41st in adjusted offensive efficiency, 60th in two-point offense, and 48th in offensive rebounding. They also get to the line frequently and convert at a 75% clip.
The tempo should be relatively quick. Both teams rank in the top 110 in pace, and Iowa State, traditionally a slower team, has sped things up this season, sitting at 49th per Haslametrics.
I do not expect as much of a rock fight tonight. After how poorly these teams performed over the weekend, combined with how low-scoring their first matchup was, offense should take center stage. Kansas needs to get back in the win column. To do that, their offense must show up. What better place than inside their home gym against a team that beat them by 17 points three weeks ago?
Best Bet: Game Over 146.5 (+100) on BetOnline
