#13 Purdue vs #14 Michigan State Best Bet
Coming off their second win over Illinois, the Michigan State Spartans host the Purdue Boilermakers, who are coming off back-to-back losses to Michigan and Wisconsin this past Saturday. With Purdue needing to get back on track and Michigan State riding a big road win, I think the Boilermakers could keep this one close.
I, for one, have minimal respect for this Spartan team. They have benefited from a weak schedule despite it being ranked 35th, per Haslametrics. Luckily for us Purdue backers, the Boilermakers have endured the second-toughest schedule in the entire country.
On the road this season, the Boilermakers have maintained their efficient offense, ranked 55th, per Bart Torvik. They excel at scoring on the inside and getting to the line, ranking in the top 100 in both categories. Defensively, they have stepped up on the road, holding the 14th-best adjusted defensive efficiency. They are one of the best rebounding defenses in the country, ranking 20th, while also ranking in the top 60 in turnover percentage.
Michigan State is in a tough spot. They have a gauntlet to finish the season, starting with Purdue tonight. Then they go to Michigan on Friday, travel to Maryland on Tuesday, host Wisconsin on March 2nd, visit Iowa on March 6th, and then close out the regular season by hosting Michigan. That is six games, with five of those opponents ranked inside the top 25, per Bart Torvik.
With it still being February, I am less worried about Tom Izzo. However, Matt Painter needs to have his team ready to bounce back and finish the season strong.
Give me Purdue in the Michigan State letdown spot.
