Minnesota Timberwolves @ Memphis Grizzlies
Chris Finch and the Timberwolves have been better than advertised this year. Coming into the season there was worry about Julius Randle’s fit as well as if the team would regress as Rudy Gobert continues to age. They naysayers weren’t proven wrong but they have been quieted. Minnesota is 6-4 in their last ten but they’re a team that has a punchers chance every night. The Timberwolves are relentless on second chance points and play tough defence. If they can win tonight they have a real chance of climbing out of the Play-In. Their remaining two games after this are against the Brooklyn Nets and Utah Jazz.
The Grizzlies fired Taylor Jenkins but that already feels like the distant past as they’ve won three straight and Ja Morant’s causing chaos with a new celebration. The Grizzlies get the Timberwolves tonight then get the Nuggets and Mavericks to close out the season. Their final three opponents are all chasing better seeds. Hence, Memphis will have a hard time not falling into the Play-In.

NBA Game Analysis
Minnesota plays very well against bad scoring defences. Hence, the Timberwolves are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games vs. bottom 10 scoring defences. They are also 9-1 straight up against those teams. Also, the over hit in 4 of the last 5 games against said defences. Anthony Edwards teams’ style of play also travels well. They are 23-17 on the road this season and their path to victory is to just play their style.
As mentioned, Chris Finch’s team is very good at 2nd chance points ranking 8th in the league. Memphis is 24th in defending 2nd chance points. Tonight one of the visitor’s biggest strengths will be one of the home team’s glaring weaknesses.
ANTHONY EDWARDS THIS SEASON:
🔥 27.4 PPG (career high)
🎯 39.4% from 3-point (career high)
📊 1 of 5 players to ever make 300 threes in a season pic.twitter.com/uO0RtxYwPG— NBA (@NBA) April 10, 2025
Memphis’ Superstar point guard is averaging 31.3 points per game in his last three contests. He will need to be a top tier scoring threat if they win or cover in this one. The Memphis Grizzlies are 25-14 at home this year. Ja Morant assists a little better at home (8.0 apg at home/6.5 apg on the road) but that trend may not continue tonight. Ja has been a different player of late:
- Pre All-Star: 20.7 ppg
- Post All-Star: 27.5 ppg
Morant has also increased his FT% post All-Star while relatively retaining his assist statistics. Impressive.
To conclude, it should be noted that while Memphis is a bottom ten scoring defence, they do have some defensive playmakers. The Grizzlies are t-2nd in blocks and are 6th in steals per game as a team. They have a gauntlet of schedule remaining. They just fired their coach. This team is backed into a corner right now and it is going to be interesting to see the response from them.

NBA Best Bet: Jaden McDaniels o16.5 Points & Rebounds
Head-to-head McDaniels has hit this line the last two times out against the Grizzlies. In his last 20 games he has hit this line in 15 or 20 games. Furthermore, Memphis is 30th to points allowed and 28th to rebounds allowed at the SF position. They also just lost their rookie 3 & D specialist in Wells. McDaniels is due to bounce back and have a big game soon. He has gone 5 straight contests without hitting a three. He is 0-13 in that span from beyond the arc. He’s due right?
Bonus for Peepin’ the Scribbles: McDaniels/Aldama 1+ Turnover Each (+105)
Jaden McDaniels has exceeded 0.5 turnovers in 5 straight games on the road (1.2 turnovers/game average).
Santi Aldama has exceeded 0.5 turnovers in 8 straight games at home (1.8 turnovers/game average).
High intensity game we should see turnovers and these two should see plenty of playing time to just make one mistake each.
