Rockets vs Suns NBA Analysis, Odds, and Best Bet (3/30)

The young and hungry kids from Texas head into the valley for a Sunday night NBA matchup. The 2nd seed Houston Rockets visit a home team desperate for a win. Devin Booker and Kevin Durant are trying to get into the playoffs. So, they need a win bad. These superstars have their pride to play for too. This one should be fantastic. Let’s talk hoops, baby.

Houston Rockets @ Phoenix Suns

The visitors come into this one having only dropped one game in their last ten. Ime Udoka’s has a roster with menaces and junkyard dogs. Their shooting woes come and go but they defend well every night. They’re also very long and athletic. If Jamal Murray didn’t drop 39 on them then they might be on a 12 game winning streak. Furthermore, their 22-year-old star Alperen Sengun is averaging 20.1 points per game in March. His highest total of any month during this NBA season.

The Suns are clinging to their playoff hopes. One of the highest salaries in the league is barely in the Play-In Tournament. This is not good for either the players, coaching staff, or the front office. Change is coming on all fronts in Arizona. The current 11th seed have lost handily in their last two. Two good teams, the Celtics and Timberwolves, easily beat Phoenix. Moreover, the Suns have a tough schedule going forward. Sad times for a team that was considered a contender before the association tipped off in October.

NBA Game Analysis

The Rockets are younger, faster and better. They want to remain the two seed in the ultra competitive West. Their path to victory is lined with LED lights and cleared for landing. Houston there is no problem. The Rockets are 6th in fast break points per game and Phoenix is 25th in defending the break. The Rockets are also 1st in 2nd chance points and the Suns are 23rd in opponent offensive rebound %. The visitors are also 8th and points in the paint against the 17th ranked paint defence. All this to say, where the Rockets are strong, that is where the Suns are weak.

Houston is not a good shooting team but the Sun are bottom in half in most opponent shooting splits. If Phoenix wants to win they’ll have to protect the paint and hope the Rockets go cold.

Phoenix will need Devin Booker to be a game manager. He assists more at home and despite the teams performance this year the Kentucky product is committed to the franchise. The Rockets have an elite defence and if the Suns want this one Booker might have to go bonkers. The Phoenix Suns are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. top 10 scoring defences. Additionally, Phoenix is 4-24 in their last 28 games as an underdog. I always say this about this team but…

If Phoenix wins this game it will be because Booker or Durant goes absolutely crazy. In two games against Houston this year Durant averages 28.0 points per game on 67.7 FG%. Booker has only played in one game against the Rockets this year and he had 19 points and 4 assists. The last time these two teams played the Suns lost on the road. Hard not to believe history repeats itself here.

NBA Best Bet: Houston Rockets -2.0 (-110)

Phoenix needs a win and likely has the superiors stars. However, the Rockets have designs on the second seed. They have the younger more athletic players as well as the better defence. Phoenix recent games have not inspired any confidence in this squad.
