Pistons vs Celtics NBA Predictions & Picks (12/12)

The Celtics are looking to improve to 3-0 SU vs. the Pistons on the season if they can pick up a home win tonight. Interestingly enough, the clash TD Garden clash between these teams took place eight days ago as the Celtics notched a 130-120 win over the Pistons — behind Jaylen Brown’s game-high 28 points — back on Dec. 4.

It was business as usual for the Celtics, who haven’t lost to the Pistons since February 2022, winning each of the last 11 meetings since then. Although some of those encounters were closer than expected, Boston owns a dominant plus-13.5 average scoring margin over Detroit during that stretch.

Let’s also not forget that the Pistons have lost six consecutive trips to TD Garden.

There isn’t much of a reason to believe that tonight’s encounter will be any different. Only the Cleveland Cavaliers have been better than the Celtics this season whereas the Pistons look like they’ll even be lucky to be a Play-In Tournament team in April. Boston is also 19-4 SU (82.6%) as the favorite this season compared to Detroit’s 33.3% success rate (6-12 SU) as the betting underdog.

The Pistons typically haven’t performed well when the odds aren’t on their side this season. 

I just don’t see a world where the Pistons stop the Celtics. Joe Mazzulla’s team has been dominant at TD Garden all season, which includes seven wins in their last eight home games. Although Detroit is a decent 6-8 SU on the road, it owns a 19-73 SU record as the away underdog since the start of the 2022-23 season.

For comparison, Boston is 91-24 SU as the home favorite during that stretch.

In case it wasn’t clear enough, I’m predicting another Celtics home win tonight. There just isn’t a real reason to overthink tonight’s action. The Celtics are the clear-cut better team and even though the Pistons could keep things closer than expected, I just don’t see the latter winning in enemy territory.

With that being said, you’ll also want to back the Over on the 237-point total. The first two Pistons vs. Celtics tilts of the season surpassed that number, averaging a combined 246.0 PPG. The Over is now 5-1 in the last six meetings between these franchises, indicating that we’ll likely see a fair amount of offense this evening.

It’s a no-brainer to recommend Jaylen Brown o23.5 points (-130 on SportsBetting) as one of tonight’s best Pistons vs. Celtics player prop bets.

Brown is, once again, playing at an NBA All-Star level this season, having finished with 24-plus points in 13 of his 19 outings so far (68.4%). The ex-California Golden Bear has finished with the Over on this prop in three of his last four outings, averaging 26.0 PPG on .494/.345/.750 splits along the way. Don’t expect Brown to slow down anytime soon. After all, he typically steps up whenever going up against Detroit. In his last 14 encounters with the Pistons, Brown is averaging 26.6 PPG while shooting 51.8% from the floor and 35.5% from deep, finishing with the Over on this prop 12 times during that stretch — including in the first two Detroit vs. Boston matchups of the 2024-25 season.

After dropping 28 points on the Pistons last week, look for Brown to successfully pull off an encore performance.
