Pistons vs. Knicks | Game 4 Recap

Knicks vs. Pistons could turn into a classic.
Result: Knicks (94) – Pistons (93)
New York’s Game 4 win will forever be remembered as one of worst missed calls of the NBA’s first round. The Pistons had possession of the ball, down 1 with the shot clock turned off. Cade Cunningham comes down court and takes his defender 1 on 1 to the free throw line for a jump shot.
Cunningham missed the shot but somehow the rebound ended up in the hands Tim Hardaway Jr. on the perimeter. THJ went up for the 3 and Josh Hart threw his body at Tim, making clear contact with the shooter on a 3-point shot. The whistle never blew, the clock hit 0:00 and the Knicks went back to New York up 3-1.
New Kids on the Block
This Pistons team is so much fun. Cade Cunningham has developed into one of the best young players in the NBA and he’s coming off his first career postseason triple double in just his 4th ever postseason game. Detroit’s youth is one of their biggest strength but it’s also led to some difficulty finishing at the end of these games.
In Game 1 the Pistons gave up an 8-point 4th quarter lead and in both losses here in Detroit, the team’s held double digit leads in the 4th quarter, just to watch them evaporate. The Knicks have no quit and their experience has shown at key junctures in this series.
New York’s been to the postseason every year since the arrival of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns is coming off a Western Conference Finals run last year with Minnesota. Despite this being their first season playing together, they’ve looked great out on the floor and have lead these Knicks to a 3-1 series lead.
Our Best Bets in Game 5 between the Pistons and Knicks
Jalen Brunson o7.5 Assists (-106 via BetOnline)

Jalen Brunson has been an absolute dog in this series. Set your opinion on his play style aside, he’s averaging 33.3 PPG, 8.8 APG and doing his share on the glass with 4.3 RPG. Brunson’s averaging just over 40 minutes per game through the first four games and tonight should be no different in a potential elimination game.
Brunson and the Knicks come back to Madison Sqaure Garden up 3-1, with the chance to close it out in front of their home crowd. New York averages 117.5 PPG at home this year, shooting just under 50% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc.
In Game 1 the Knicks scored 123 points on this Pistons defense and despite a lacklustre Game 2, the energy in the building should help elevate every single Knick on the floor. Brunson’s cleared this line in 7 of his L11 games against Detroit, including 3 of 4 in this series; the 3 New York wins to be specific.
New York’s offense thrives when all of their starters are contributing and Brunson takes on the responsibility of finding his teammates. We’ve seen the Pistons throw multiple defenders at Brunson, trap him, and double team him; nothing works. Look for Brunson to have a similar type impact tonight.
Cade Cunningham o26.5 Points (-120 via BetOnline)

It could be Detroit’s final game of the year. They come into Game 5 on the brink of elimination and once again without a home playoff win to show for it. Detroit’s come a long way from the team that won just 14-games last year but they’ve still got a few things to figure out.
Back to back games with double digit leads in the 4th quarter, both at home and both resulting in losses. That comes with youth and the fact that the Pistons are missing their 2nd leading scorer in Jaden Ivey. Tonight with their backs against the wall, we’re going to Cade one more time.
Cunningham’s averaging 25.8 PPG in this series and he’s playing just under 42 minutes per game. He’s struggled shooting the ball, just 44% from the field and an abysmal 25% from the arc. It’s hard to ask for more of Cade but in his first ever win or go home situation, I expect him to answer the call.
