Knicks vs. Pistons | Game 2 Recap

Knicks vs. Pistons could turn into a classic.
Result: Pistons (100) – Knicks (94)
This series is setting up to be a memorable one. The Knicks and Pistons have been at each other’s throats since tip-off in Game 1. The two teams play very physical styles and it’s shown through two games. Both teams currently sit in the top-2 of personal fouls committed so far in the postseason, with the Knicks sitting last in free throws allowed.
Jalen Brunson finished Game 2 with 37 points, he shot 44% from the field and got to the line for 11 free throw attempts. Brunson’s now averaging 35.5 PPG through the first two games of this series but it’s his supporting cast that will need to step up tonight.
After combining for 46 points in Game 1, we saw both OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns go relatively quiet. They scored 10 points each in Game 2 and shot a combined 9/21 from the field.
For the Pistons it was Cade Cunningham that answered the call. The young guard scored 33 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and finished with just 3 assists. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley were a combined 1/14 from beyond the arc, scoring just 9 combined points. It didn’t matter, the Pistons got 20 from Schroder off the bench and he helped secure the win.
Pistons Steal Home Court
Protecting home court is essential in the postseason and the Knicks let one slip from their grasp. Detroit was in control for most of Game 2 but what’s of more concerning is New York’s glaring lack of depth. Bench scoring has been a huge issue for New York, with their bench being outscored 65-30 through two games.
The Knicks bench ranked dead last in points per game this year but a lot of it’s because of lack of opportunity. Head Coach Tom Thibodeau believes in high minutes and playing your best players for as long as possible. New York ranks dead last in bench minutes per game this year and it’s translated right to the postseason.
Detroit’s depth has allowed them to stay in this series, winning Game 2 despite awful shooting nights from their top-2 3-point shooters. The addition of Dennis Schröder has proven key and now with 2-games in Detroit, look for the Pistons to walk around with a little extra swagger tonight.
Our Best Bets in Game 3 between the Pistons and Knicks
Detroit Pistons ML (+113 via BetOnline)

The Pistons depth is what brings me to this conclusion. This series is far from over but coming off their first playoff win since 2009, the Pistons are hungry for more. Detroit held the Pistons to 94 points in Game 2 and held the Knicks to 83 points through 3 quarters in Game 1.
Outside of their 4th quarter collapse, the Pistons have led this series for a good chunk of time and their depth is what gives them the edge. In back to back games they’ve had 20 point scorers come off the bench and are coming off a game in which they shot 20% from beyond the arc and still secured the win.
Tonight, at home in the postseason for the first time since 2019, look for the Pistons to come out fired up.
Malik Beasley o3.5 3s (+100 via BetOnline)

Malik Beasley plays basketball today, therefore I am obligated to bet on it.
