Jazz vs Clippers NBA Analysis, Odds, and Best Bet (2/8)

Saturday night NBA action, baby. A dark horse contender from LA and a tanking team from Utah. This is the final game of night on a fat NBA slate before Super Bowl LIX dominates the sporting world tomorrow. This one should be fun!

Utah Jazz vs Los Angeles Clippers

The Jazz just played last night to a OT thriller against the reeling Suns. Isaiah Collier is catching attention but fellow rookie Kyle Filipkowski had a double double in less than 20 minutes. They may be tanking but Will Hardy’s team will pester and annoy opponents until game 82 hits all zeroes on the clock. An example of that is the fact that the Jazz are 6-3 against the spread in their last 9 versus top 10 scoring defences.

The Clippers have surprised pundits who questioned their aging roster. Myself included in the doubters proven wrong. Stormin’ Norman Powell was snubbed from the All-Star game but that doesn’t change what he’s done. Kawhi looks healthy. They added a shooter at the deadline. Zubac has been beastly too. James Hardens playoff streak looks safe. However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The Clippers may have run out of surprises as they’ve lost 3 straight basketball games.

Furthermore, even though the jiggish Jazz have bothered opponents, they still continue to lose games. They’re 2-8 in their last ten.

Kyle Filipowski: Remember the Name

Justifiably, fans of the association and wagering both have fallen in love with rookie sensation Isaiah Collier. However, Kyle Filipowski will turn heads this season. The former ACC Rookie of the Year had a green room invite at the draft. Unfortunately, off court drama had him drop out of the first round. This could be seen as a somewhat serendipitous moment as he’s already shown chemistry with the aforementioned Isaiah Collier.

Filipowski has the size and motor to play centre but the touch and footwork of a perimeter player. He has been a proven prospect for years and I expect him to garner attention as his minutes increase. They should increase too. They Jazz are tanking and Walker Kessler could get shutdown since he’s been so awesome.

I digress. Let’s focus on tonight.

NBA Game Analysis

The Jazz will be tired on their second half of a back-to-back. They fell to the Sun in OT so expect Will Hardy to utilize his bench more in this one. Like most nights, they’ll need a Herculean effort, an outlier type game from someone to stay in this one let alone win. There is hope though. The Jazz could up the tempo as the Clippers are 20th in fast break points given up. They do have a pair of speedy young guards in Collier and George.

This feels like the perfect spot for the Clippers. You don’t want to go limping into the All-Star break. You need to send players off for earned rest and not respite. This is a get right spot for Ty Lue and company. This team made a trade to get Serbian shooter Bogdanovic so their front office still have confidence to contend.

Most importantly, The Clippers own the leagues third best scoring defence. Incredibly, they hold teams to only 107.7 points per game. They also keep teams off the three (34.5% – 4th) and protect the paint (46 mpg – 4th). Teams also shoot lower than their averages from the free throw line inside of the Intuit Dome.

NBA Best Bet: Jordan Clarkson o2.5 (+105)

This is one is from the purple plums. He is listed as game time so that does worry me paired with the Clippers excellent defence. However, the kids alright but the vet might have to turn up. He was ruled out Friday with his foot but Will Hardy might need him on the second half of a back-to-back. Especially after Utah played in overtime.
