Grizzlies vs Spurs NBA Predictions & Picks (1/17)

As mentioned before, this isn’t the first 2024-25 clash between these Southwest Division rivals. The first Grizzlies vs. Spurs clash of the campaign took place just two nights ago, ending in a 129-115 victory for Memphis at Frost Bank Center.

Although the Spurs held a 12-point lead at halftime, they couldn’t hold on for the win as the Grizzlies outscored the former 78-52 in the second half. Ja Morant and Desmond Bane each recorded 21-point efforts in the victory while Santi Aldama added a 20-point, 10-rebound performance in 27 minutes off the bench.

With that victory, the Grizzlies improved to a lopsided 15-1 SU in its last 16 meetings with the Spurs. What’s even worse is that San Antonio hasn’t defeated its division rival at home in over six years, losing the last 10 clashes at Frost Bank Center by an average of 9.7 PPG. That’s without mentioning how Taylor Jenkins’ team has scored 120-plus points in four of its last five trips to the Alamo City.

Do the Grizzlies have it in them to notch an 11th consecutive road win against the Spurs tonight? 

It’s hard to imagine the Spurs turning things around tonight based on how their latest stretch has gone. They’ve fallen below the .500 mark for the first time since early December due to a 1-4 SU record in their last five games. Their outlook is even less promising given that they only have a 23.8% win percentage when playing with the same amount of rest as their opponents this season, ranking fifth-worst in the Association.

For comparison, the Grizzlies boast a 72.0% success rate in that regard — good for the fifth-best effort.

Having said that, a potentially shorthanded backcourt could create issues for Memphis. Not only is Marcus Smart sidelined with a finger injury for the next few weeks, but Morant is being listed as ‘questionable’ with a knee injury tonight. The silver lining is that the Grizzlies are 10-7 SU without Morant in the lineup this season.

Outside of absentees Jeremy Sochan (back) and Riley Minix (shoulder), the Spurs are expected to have a relatively healthy lineup.

The Spurs need their healthy players to step up to defeat the Grizzlies tonight. 

The Verdict

Having shown they can handle the Spurs on Wednesday, it’s a no-brainer to back another Grizzlies win tonight.

It’s hard to ignore just how badly the Grizzlies have dominated the Spurs for the last half-decade. No matter what it does, San Antonio can’t figure out a way to beat its Southwest Division rival. The Grizzlies simply know how to get the better of the Spurs on both offense and defense, which is a trend that will likely continue if their last meeting is any indication.

With the Spurs only going 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games, look for the Grizzlies to cover the spread en route to their 27th win of the campaign.

Best Grizzlies vs Spurs NBA Player Prop Bet (1/17)

With the way he’s been performing, I can’t help but list Jaren Jackson Jr. o22.5 points (-120 on Bovada) as one of the best available Grizzlies vs. Spurs player props.

The 2024-25 season has been another solid year for Jackson, who’s only improved as the schedule has progressed. The former Michigan State Spartan is averagiThng 26.0 points while shooting 47.3% from the field in his last 10 games. Although he hasn’t been the most accurate shooter during that run, he still finished with 23-plus points six times, which includes a 4-2 success rate in his last six road games.

After the Spurs held him to “only” 19 points on Wednesday, I expect a bounce-back performance from Jackson this evening. After all, the Over went 3-1 on the 25-year-old big man’s last four trips to San Antonio, averaging 25.5 PPG along the way.

As the Grizzlies need a win to get closer to the top of the division, look for Jackson to step up in a big way tonight.
