NASCAR Racing Returns to Rockingham

This weekend marks the lone off-week for NASCAR’s top series this season, with the series set to resume next week with the Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega.

While Kyle Larson, William Byron, and other Cup Series stars are enjoying a bye week, the Xfinity Series and Truck Series are at Rockingham for the famed speedway’s first NASCAR national series races since 2013.

Following Tyler Ankrum’s drought-snapping win in last night’s Black’s Tire 200, the focus now turns to the tenth race of the Xfinity Series season.

Ahead of the North Carolina Education Lottery 250, reigning series champion Justin Allgaier continues to maintain a healthy advantage atop the standings. After finishing third in last weekend’s SciAps 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Allgaier holds an 83-point lead over Sam Mayer, with Jesse Love 109 points back of Allgaier in third.

With no Cup Series regulars in this week’s Xfinity Series race, Allgaier is the Rockingham favorite, ahead of Creed, Mayer, and Kasey Kahne, who will race in one of NASCAR’s top three series for the first time since 2018, when his final Cup Series season ended prematurely.

North Carolina Education Lottery 250 Predictions and Picks

Austin Hill (-120 at Bovada) H2H vs Brandon Jones

Jones finished better than Hill in each of the last two races, including his win at Darlington two weeks ago. But after finishing 24^th at Bristol, Hill should have a much better week this week. Each of the previous two times he finished outside of the top 20 this season, he finished in the top five in the following race, winning at Atlanta after finishing 33^rd at Daytona and finishing fourth at Las Vegas after finishing 37^th at Phoenix.

Sammy Smith to finish in the North Carolina Education Lottery 250 top five (+200 at Bovada)

In the first six races of the season, Smith recorded just one top-ten finish. But he has put together three consecutive solid finishes, coming in tenth at Martinsville, ninth at Darlington, and fourth at Bristol. He got in some valuable track time last night in the Truck Series race, in which he finished 16^th. On an unfamiliar track, that could prove to be helpful today.

Kasey Kahne to finish in the top five (-120 at Bovada)

Backing someone who has not driven in a NASCAR national series race in nearly seven years comes with a level of risk, but his level of experience justifies the risk. Kahne, who owns 31 NASCAR wins (18 Cup Series, 8 Xfinity Series, 5 Truck Series, will make his 751^st start across the top three series, and it should go well enough to hopefully make further starts a possibility.

Justin Allgaier to finish in the top three (-105 at Bovada)

Has finally winning a championship helped unlock a new level in Allgaier? Whatever it is, he is on a heater right now. In his last six races, he has finished fifth, first, first, third, third, and third. Look for him to pick up another top-three finish in today’s race. If he keeps this run going, the odds won’t continue to be fairly favorable, so make the most of them while they still are.
