The Milwaukee Brewers take on the Cleveland Guardians in Game 2 of their only series this season. The hosts were able to shutout their visitors last night, securing a 5-0 Game 1 victory.

However the Guardians are still 2.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central, and they are tied with the Kansas City Royals as well. Sure there is plenty of baseball to be played, but they don’t want the Tigers to extend that lead anymore. A win tonight would guarantee a series victory, and that’s what the Guards are gunning for tonight.

The Brewers are 20-22 on the season, sitting in 3rd in the NL Central. They are four games out of first, tied with the Cincinnati Reds, and three games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for 2nd place. Milwaukee also sits at just 8-15 on the road this year, which certainly doesn’t help their chances tonight.

The Guardians are one of the best teams at home this season, sitting at 13-7 overall. This is after dropping 2/3 to the Phillies at home over the weekend. As for the Brewers, they have lost 3/4 on this current road trip, and have lost six of their last ten contests. Just two more games on the road and then they get to sleep in their own bed again, which they are certainly looking forward to.

However, they need to finish this series first, and I don’t know if they have it in them with Priester on the mound.

Back the Guardians at home with me tonight. While they don’t necessarily hit better at home, their record improves and their team batting average increases five points against RHP. Tonight against Priester, I could see them lighting him up.

Four of his five pitches are below league average, including his sinker which he throws over 40% of the time. His cutter is well below league average as well, making him an easier matchup for these Guardian hitters. As for Cleveland, they toss out Logan Allen. He hasn’t been all that great this season, but he’s more comfortable at home, and the Brewers struggle against lefties.

Milwaukee’s batting average drops 10 points against LHP and they’ve been hitting just .184 as a team during the month of May. I see them continuing to stay in a slump today on the road, giving the Guardians the victory.
