The St. Louis Cardinals enter 2025 looking like a team in transition, having lost Paul Goldschmidt to free agency and actively shopping Nolan Arenado. With little done to improve a struggling pitching staff, they are relying on Sonny Gray to lead a lackluster rotation that lacks depth and firepower. While their young core provides some hope for the future, this season could be a long one for Cardinals fans as the team appears headed for another step back.

Expectations for St. Louis
A team that slept through the entire offseason, entering 2025 without Paul Goldschmidt, who they let walk to sign with the New York Yankees. On top of that, they are actively trying to move 10-time Gold Glove winner Nolan Arenado. They did nothing to improve their pitching, leaving Sonny Gray as their Opening Day starter. With Lance Lynn gone in free agency, the rest of the rotation will likely consist of Erick Fedde, Miles Mikolas, Andre Pallante, and Steven Matz—a group that does not exactly strike fear into opponents.
As for the lineup, this should be a respectable young team with a bright future, featuring Jordan Walker, Lars Nootbaar, Masyn Winn, and Brendan Donovan. Even if they lose Arenado this year, the Cardinals offense should be able to keep games interesting. However, their pitching will ultimately be their downfall. On the bright side, Cardinals game overs should be worth keeping an eye on this season. This is a team that ranked 22nd in scoring last year, averaging 4.15 runs per game, while ranking 18th in runs allowed, giving up 4.44 per game.
I would be shocked if this is not one of the worst teams in baseball in 2025, but at least the fans can enjoy the young talent scattered throughout the lineup.
Future Leans & Bets
I am not high on this Cardinals team whatsoever in 2025, but they should still be fun to watch. Their games should feature around eight runs per game, so the bats will be active—and who does not love runs? Is there value in betting on them to have the worst record in baseball at 100/1? Anything at 100/1 has value, so toss a few cents on that and add their win total under 75.5 while you are at it. This team should take a massive step back as they continue their rebuild.
BET: Cardinals Win Total Under 75.5 (-115)
