The Mariners’ offseason has been nothing short of disappointing, especially for a team that was just a few pieces away from making some noise. Despite a solid pitching staff, their lack of impactful moves has left their offense stagnant. With underwhelming acquisitions and a questionable lineup, it is hard to see Seattle improving in 2025.

Expectations for Seattle
Has there been a more disappointing team this offseason than the Mariners? Sure, maybe the Blue Jays, but no team stands out as being just a few pieces away from making noise in October. This offseason was a failure for the Mariners. Their most notable acquisitions were infielder Jorge Polanco, utility player Miles Mastrobuoni, and infielder Donovan Solano—names that do not move the needle.
Seattle made no effort to acquire Pete Alonso, instead sticking with Luke Raley. Raley, who batted .243 with an OPS of .783, drove in 58 runs and hit 22 home runs in 137 games last season, does not inspire confidence. They made no attempt at Alex Bregman, sticking with what they already have—utility infielders. Roto Champ projects Jorge Polanco at third base, Dylan Moore at second, and J.P. Crawford at shortstop. It is a very underwhelming infield.
They have a strong starting rotation with Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, and George Kirby, but their offense is lacking. Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh, and Randy Arozarena will not be enough to carry this offense to the playoffs, or even to 80+ wins. With a very underwhelming lineup, the Mariners were 20th in runs scored, averaging just 4.17 per game, despite leading the league in runs allowed at 3.75 per game. Pitching can only take a team so far.
So Bregman signed. Where’s the corresponding move we’ve been waiting all offseason for @ Mariners? pic.twitter.com/uqvHd68FRn

Future Leans & Bets
This team won 85 games last season, finishing second in the AL West. However, with the Texas Rangers bolstering their offense and the Astros always being a quietly strong team, I expect the Mariners to struggle in 2025. I do not see them winning more games than last season, nor do I see them making the playoffs. At even money, the under on Seattle’s win total is an excellent price. Expect this team to finish with around 80 wins at most, landing in third place in the West.
