FSU vs Oregon State Prediction and Picks
Had the Seminoles closed out Game 1 after leading 4-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, this series might already be done and dusted.
But to their credit, they shook off the potentially crushing disappointment of Friday night’s 5-4, 10-inning loss to win 3-1 in Game 2 last night.
For the second straight game, FSU got a strong start on the mound. Friday night, it was Joey Volini allowing one run and striking out eight in 6.2 innings. Last night, it was Jamie Arnold showing why he will be a very, very early pick in next month’s MLB Draft by allowing one run and striking out nine in 6.2 innings.
Tonight, the ball will go to Wes Mendes, who spun a gem against Mississippi State in the Tallahassee Regional championship game last Sunday. In the win, he allowed two runs and five hits and striking out nine in eight outstanding innings.
In five games during this year’s regionals and Super Regionals, Seminole starting pitchers have a 2.58 ERA and 1.21 WHIP and have logged 40 strikeouts in 31.1 innings.
On the other side, Oregon State’s starters have also been up to the task since Eric Segura was unable to make it out of the first inning in the regional opener against Saint Mary’s. Since that game, their starters have a 1.87 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP and have logged 50 strikeouts in 33.2 innings.
With the way that both teams have been pitching, expect a lower-scoring game tonight at Goss Stadium. Who will punch a ticket to Omaha? It’s a real toss-up, but FSU has had the upper hand over the balance of the first 18 innings, which gives them the edge here.
FSU vs Oregon State Prediction: FSU to win
FSU vs Oregon State Picks: FSU ML & Under 12
